If you’ve been following our Do Art journey, you’ll know that we’ve previously been featured in the Rochelle News-Leader, the paper of record for Rochelle, IL.
We are proud to receive support from an institution as important as a local paper, which provides necessary information to communities, and acts as the lifeblood of local democracy.
We were previously featured in the Rochelle News-Leader in January. Since then we’ve done nearly 100 workshops in 6 states, given away comics for our Free Comic Book Day event. We’ve also seen the power of Do Art on display at comic cons and workshops, bringing creativity and inspiration to countless people.
The latest article is titled “Do Art Productions seeing growth with art workshops after getting its start in Rochelle,” and that is certainly the truth! Every day brings new responses and requests for our Art and Comic Book Workshops. We are already making plans for a nationwide tour–more details as they become available.
One thing that hasn’t changed since January is what Jerry said about our mission. Do Art, he said, is “getting people into a creative realm where they can thrive and succeed.” We earnestly believe that this is necessary in a world that too often considers art as a luxury, with art education enduring funding cuts and public support for the arts always hanging by a thread, especially in complex economic times.
It is worth remembering at such times that art is fundamental to humanity. It is the joy of consciousness creating reflections of itself. It’s also unbelievable fun–and human beings deserve fun, not only as a palliative to the pains of life but as a means to intensify the joy and splendor of being human.
