Happy 2025 to everyone out there in the Do Art Nation! We just finished our biggest event of the year, so far, at the Hedberg Public Library in Janesville, Wisconsin.
This creative assembly was at the Janesville Uptown Mall, in the center courtyard. The library, which operates a satellite branch at the mall, was excited to bring our unique blend of creativity and inspiration to library patrons and mall-goers alike! Jerry was especially excited to bust out the unicycle and costumes once more.
Watching the workshop from the back, taking time to snap pictures and hand out paper and pencils to kids who needed them, I was struck by how far we’ve come in only 2 years. With over 50 attendees–kids and parents alike–the crowd was buzzing with energy. The librarian remarked that what we do is not “merely” a workshop but a full-on performance, seeking not only to instruct the audience, but to recognize the creativity they bring to the table, to praise and validate their drawings and ideas.
The creative assembly culminated with a group comic. In this one our constantly-troublesome dry eraser The Other Thing managed to prank Jerry by cutting the tightrope he was unicycling on, only to reappear as a nefarious doctor with an enormous syringe. It was the kind of wacky action we’ve come to expect from our workshops.
And this is only the beginning! Our schedule of events for 2025 promises to make this our busiest year ever. Check our events schedule for a full list of workshops, assemblies, and more! See you soon, and until then: keep creating!
